1. Pre-Assessment:
- The unit pre-assessment is the A-Z Brainstorming activity. Students will be put into groups and given butcher paper and markers. On the paper, students will write the letters A-Z vertically down the side. Then students will brainstorm everything they know about the Holocaust/WWII, alphabetically. Once they are done, each group will present what they know to the class.
- The formative (ongoing) assessment is the Leveled Questions that the students both read and create. This shows that the students are keeping up with the reading assignments and that they understand what they are reading. If students do not answer a question or struggle to create/answer leveled questions, then I will be able to see where they are struggling.
- There are two summative assessments. The first is the comprehensive exam on the anchor text, the second is the final writing assignment, the Narrative Essay. These assessments tie in all of the skills the students have learned and used throughout the unit.
- Attached below is the prompt and the rubric for the Narrative Essay.
